How to Create an Amazon Liquidation Strategy

Price below the Buy Box and set Min prices at breakeven to clear out old inventory

Written by Dillon Carter

To get started, you may utilize the pre-configured Buy Box Targeting strategy in the Strategies builder.

Step 1 — Configure your Pursuit settings

  1. Set your Competition Type to 'Only Buy Box'

  2. Reprice below the Buy Box by $0.03 (or greater, depending on your tolerance)

Step 2 — Configure your Maintenance settings

Set the Maintenance section to "Do Not Reprice." This will hold you at the price where the Buy Box was won indefinitely, until your offer sells out, or the Buy Box either rotates to a different offer. If this happens with stock available, Aura will revert to the Pursuit section to compete as it had previously.

Step 3 — Set your Min prices

Set your Min prices to 0% ROI.

*This equals breakeven for each listing (factoring in your cost and Amazon transaction-level fees).

Step 4 — Apply the strategy

Apply your new strategy to any listings you want to liquidate.

With time, lowering your min prices by ~10% every few days will give Aura additional headroom to reprice lower if needed.

If the current Buy Box offer is underneath your minimum price, your min price is the closest Aura will be able to get. Ideally, your min price is set lower than the current Buy Box, to give Aura the headroom it needs to effectively compete.

To sell beneath breakeven, you'll need to switch from automatic Min prices to manual Min prices. Learn how to manually override your strategy Min price here.

Liquidating below breakeven

Aura's strategy builder does not accept negative ROI values — 0% ROI is the lowest the automatic Min price can go, and it represents breakeven (your cost plus Amazon transaction-level fees), not a price below it.

To sell below breakeven, you'll need to manually override the Min price on the listings you want to discount further, rather than relying on the strategy's automatic calculation. See How to Override Strategy Level Price Rules on a Listing for the steps.

If the current Buy Box offer is already below your cost, Aura won't reprice below your set Min price to match it — your Min price (automatic or manually overridden) is always the floor.

Automating liquidation by inventory age

Rather than manually reassigning the liquidation strategy as inventory ages, you can set up a workflow that does this automatically once a listing crosses an age threshold you choose (for example, moving a listing from Maven or Buy Box Targeting into your liquidation strategy once it hits 60+ days unsold). See Setting up an Age of Inventory Workflow for the steps.

If you're also using an Age of Inventory workflow, make sure it isn't set to reassign strategies on listings you've manually moved to liquidation — an active workflow can override a manual strategy change.
